THE LAST SUPPER: DA VINCI'S HIDDEN MYSTERY
“In the silence of the supper, secrets whisper through the ages, hidden in the gaze of the apostles and the shadows of the room.”
The last supper is a portrait drawn by Leonardo Da Vinci. This artwork depicts the moment Jesus announces that one of his disciples will betray him. The last supper is one of the most famous and studied paintings of all time. This is due to its intriguing mystery which Da Vinci hid within it. All the hidden mysteries and secrets made the art interesting for historians and the public.
HOW WAS THE PAINTING CREATED.
The art was painted between 1495 and 1498, which was around 1465 years after the actual last supper and Jesus's crucifixion.
One might wonder how Da Vinci had drawn the painting which he didn't witness or knowing what Jesus looked like, as this was 1465 years after the actual event. For this Da Vinci first found a towel in which the blood of Jesus Christ was wiped after his crucifixion. This gave him an idea about Jesus's face shape. By understanding and studying the facial structure, Da Vinci searched for a man with similar facial features. Eventually he saw a man on the bar singing, he had the similar facial features of Jesus. Da Vinci confronted him and asked whether he could be his model, and the man agreed. By making the man as his model Da Vinci painted the famous Last Supper. Da Vinci had painted the art on the walls of ' The Convent of Santa Maria Delle Grazie ' in Milan, Italy.

WHAT DID DA VINCI USE TO PAINT THE LAST SUPPER?
"Materials: Unlike traditional frescoes, Leonardo used tempera on gesso, pitch, and mastic, which unfortunately led to the painting's rapid deterioration"
Leonardo Da Vinci didn't use the usual method for wall painting, which involves painting on wet plaster(fresco). Instead, he used a mix of paint and other materials like gesso (a type of resin). This different technique caused the painting to start falling apart more quickly than traditional frescoes.
- Light and Shadow: Leonardo's use of chiaroscuro (contrast between light and dark) adds depth and realism
- Judas: Judas is depicted as holding a bag this may be representing the silver that he got paid for betraying Jesus. It is also visible that there is a bottle of salt knocked down by him this also add the feeling of a bad omen.
- MARY MAGDALENE: This is one of the most argued theories from the Last supper. In the Last Supper we see a person sitting in the right of Jesus, most of us believes that it is one Jesus Christ's apostles John. But many argue that it's not John instead it is Mary Magdalene. Highlighting a closer relationship between Jesus and her. Taking this in account some says that Mary Magdalene is Jesus's wife, and he fathered her children. Later when Jesus had been crucified Mary Magdalene realized that she and her children's lives were in threat, so she flied to France and went to the French royal family and took help from them. These people believe that still the bloodline of Jesus is continuing in France.
Some believes that Leonardo included hidden messages and codes within the painting. For instance, an Italian musician claimed to have found musical notes encoded in the positions of the bread rolls and hands of the apostles
CULTURAL IMPACT
The Last Supper has had a profound impact on the art and culture influencing countless artists and becoming a central piece in discussion about art, religion, and history.
MY THOUGHTS
The Last Supper is indeed a painting with numerous hidden details and is surrounded by lot of mysteries. The story that I had mentioned about Jesus and Mary Magdalene is stated in the Book THE DA VINCI CODE by dan brown. personally, I believe that he is spreading falsehood, and this may be because in all the Christian's mind Jesus has a divine image and we are not able to accept such claims, that he had been married and had children. Da Vinci had hidden many secrets in the art and still lots of people are trying to decode it.
SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT IT, COMMENT!!!
Dan Brown was writing fiction. It was powerful fiction, tantalising too in many ways. But fiction, nevertheless. Da Vinci must have had his own secrets and codes and secret organisations too. But quite a lot of his contributions belong to the realms of art, of imagination.
ReplyDeleteDan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" is indeed a book which includes historical elements with high end imaginations, creating a work of fiction
